Three Important Components That You Need For Do It Yourself Home Security

By Ralph Winn

There are more and more people who are doing do it yourself home security. These days it pays to be safe and people are realizing that. There are so many different home security systems available that it can be a daunting task to find the security that you need. This is why it is always a good idea to do your research and learn about home security.

Do it yourself home security doesn’t just include the home security system. There are other things that will help keep your home safe that you have to do if you really want to have home security for your family. You need to figure out your budget so that you know what you can get and what you can’t. There are many affordable security systems but some of them are more expensive. So you always have to be careful and know your budget before you start making your home safe.

With do it yourself home security you can definitely save money on the installation costs. Plus you have the added bonus of knowing that you didn’t have to have strangers in your home to get the home security you want. There are some basic components that you will need if you are going to do it yourself.

Here are the do it yourself home security components that you will need in order to do the job right. Remember that the more secure your home is the better your home security is. This is the best way to keep your family safe.

One: Window locks and bolts for the doors. This is the first step you want to take with home security. You need to put sliding bolts on all of the doors that lead outside and on all of the locks on the windows. You not only need to install them but once they are in place you have to remember to use them. Otherwise, they aren’t any use for security. Every time you leave the house or at night, you want to make sure you check to make sure everything is locked tight.

Two: Outside Lights are the second step in do it yourself home security. Good lighting is always a good idea but you want to make sure that you get the motion detecting lights and place them around your home outside and on the perimeter of your property if you can do that to. The more light you have the better your home security will be because this will stop anyone from being able to sneak up to your home under the cover of darkness.

Three: The next step in do it yourself home security is security cameras. There are many wireless, internet ready security cameras that are stand alone that you can get for cheap These cameras will broadcast a signal online for you to keep track of it. This makes it easy to monitor the cameras from any computer that is connected to the internet. This means that setting up security cameras for your home security is simple to do and use.

All of these are very important components for do it yourself home security. There are other things that you can add that will help more with your home security but those are things that you get only if you want to and can afford it. Always make sure you check out everything and learn more about it before you decide to get it because security for your home is important so don’t rush any decision.

Enjoy and Protect Your Urban Home with these Simple Safety Tips

The metropolitan lifestyle is exciting for many people: the proximity to entertainment, accessibility to work, and a feeling of being part of the action are all great reasons to move into the city. Unfortunately, these trendy areas often fall prey to crime, and the rates of burglaries and vandalism in metropolitan areas seems to escalate daily. This trend is expected to continue as the economy worsens. Protecting your home and family from burglary and theft can be easy and affordable. A great first step is to look at your home through a burglar’s eyes and find the weakest security points.

Doors and windows are often the easiest points of access for criminals, and though it may seem obvious simply locking your doors and windows is the most affordable means of home security. Sadly, many people simply become complacent and forget to lock up before bed or leaving the house for a night on the town.

Doors - Your doors will stand up to most breach attempts if they are made from solid wood or metal rather than a hollow core. Install 3.5 inch long steel screws to fasten the door to the frame for maximum protection.

Windows
- The glass in windows and doors is often the easiest way a thief can gain access to your home: statistically upwards of 80 percent of all break-ins occur through a door or window. Security window films are affordable, and can provide an extra layer of defense from thieves attempting to smash a window to gain access to the home. While a burglar may be able to muster enough force to eventually smash the window, the repeated attempts require a lot of attention-grabbing blows. ShatterGARD, Inc. is one of the largest privately held glass protection and security product companies in the United States. ShatterGUARD products are trusted to protect the men and women of the U.S. military and law enforcement communities, as well as facilities associated with the worldwide banking and telecommunications industries, and private residences. For more information on how to protect your business or home against break-ins, home invasions, or hurricane winds, visit Shatterguard,at www.ShatterGARD .com.

Landscaping
- Finally, it’s important to assess the visibility of doors and windows from the
road since quite often people inadvertently obstruct these areas of their home in landscaping. Unfortunately even though trees and shrubs (even in planters on your front step) look beautiful, they often provide cover for thieves wanting to stealthily gain access to your home. Appropriate landscaping can actually help deter intruders, and can still look beautiful.
• Keep trees, bushes, and planters back from the house and windows. This will help diminish the likelihood of an intruder using the shrubs as cover. Tree limbs should also be trimmed, to prevent an intruder from using a tree to access a second story entry point.
• Planting low-growing sharp or thorny bushes such as holly, rose shrub, or barberry under windows, or adding gravel or landscape rock which makes for noisy footing, are also good ways to deter thieves from attempting to gain access to windows.
• Garages are favorite targets for thieves, not only because they are often unoccupied, but because they often offer a direct and unlocked entry to the remainder of the home. A few simple countermeasures, such as keeping doors closed and locked and regularly changing codes on door openers can help greatly deter an intruder’s ability to access the garage.

BurglarGARD Glass Protection Films Guard Glass Against Thieves and Vandals

BurglarGARD Glass Protection Films Guard Glass Against Thieves and Vandals
Windows can now be discreetly "shielded" against thieves and vandalism with glass protection films called BurglarGARD™ from ShatterGARD®, Inc. Applied directly to the glass, BurglarGARD works like an invisible coat of armor, strengthening the building's "weakest security link" -- the glass. What’s more, you can protect your home and business using glass protections films without altering the outward appearance of your home or business.

BurglarGARD adheres to the interior side of the window. The glass protection film is virtually undetectable to the human eye and will not alter the appearance of the windows in any way.
BurglarGARD can provide a significant improvement over standard or tempered treated glass in its ability to withstand an attack from weapons such as a baseball bat, flying rock or even the occasional stray golf ball! While a criminal may muster enough force to shatter the window, it will require repeated and attention getting blows to break through the virtually impenetrable film. Most burglars won't risk the time needed to break through, and will abandon the attempted burglary.

That's good news for homeowners and businesses that use windows and showcases to display their products. According to the FBI's Unified Crime Report, almost 70 percent of all burglaries involved forced entry through a window or door.

PROTECTING YOUR HOME FROM BREAK-INS AND INVASIONS WITHOUT DESTROYING THE BEAUTY OF YOUR HOME

Given the recent wave of home invasions and break-ins that have occurred in US neighborhoods, Jordan Frankel, founder of ShatterGARD Glass Protection., a leader in the security products industry and security expert providing onsite commercial and residential security assessments, offered homeowners the following simple and affordable tips to help keep their families safe and secure:

Windows – The glass in windows and doors can very often be a point of weakness as well. Security window films are affordable, and can provide an extra layer of defense from thieves attempting to smash a window to gain access to the home. While a burglar may be able to muster enough force to eventually smash the window, the repeated attempts require a lot of attention-grabbing blows. Assuring the home has proper doors made from solid wood or metal, rather than a hollow-core style, along with 3.5 inch long steel screws to fasten the hinges to the door frame, will stand up to most breach attempts.

n The ability to see the outside of an exterior door is also very important. If an abutting window cannot provide a view of the doorstep before opening it, a peep hold can easily be installed.

Landscaping: Believe it or not, appropriate landscaping can help deter intruders from accessing windows, while maintaining an aesthetic appeal.

n Keeping trees and bushes trimmed back from the house and windows helps diminish the likelihood of an intruder using the shrubs as cover. Tree limbs should also be trimmed, to prevent an intruder from using a tree to access a second story entry point.

n Planting low-growing sharp or thorny bushes such as holly, rose shrub, or barberry under windows, or adding gravel or landscape rock which makes for noisy footing, are also good ways to deter thieves from attempting to gain access to windows.

n Secure the Garage: Garages are favorite targets for thieves, not only because they are often unoccupied, but because they often offer a direct and unlocked entry to the remainder of the home. A few simple countermeasures can help greatly deter an intruder’s ability to access the garage.

n Always keep the garage door closed; an empty garage or a missing vehicle can alert thieves that the home is unattended.

n Change the factory set codes on the door’s remote control often, so thieves cannot open the door with a store bought remote.

n Adding motion and glass break sensors to all windows in the garage will also provide added warning of an attempted break-in.
